    Habit/Size up to 40 feet tall and 25 feet wide
    Germination Stratify (cold/moist) for 60-90 days. Sow seeds 3/8 in. deep.
    Requirements Tolerates most soil types and pH levels. Prefers moist soil and full sun, but can grow in partial shade. Medium water needs.

    Harvest Ripe fruit has an excellent flavor and texture. Great in bread, cakes, pies, and preserves. Roasted seeds can be used as a coffee substitute. Leaves can be used to improve the flavor of pickled foods.

    Saving Seeds/Propagation Diospyros kaki is dioecious, meaning each flower is either male of female, but only one sex per plant. Both male and female plants must be grown together if harvesting seed. Diospyros kaki is not self-fertile.
